Nigeria, dear native land!

August 6, The Transfiguration of the Lord

May the peace of the Transfigured Lord be upon our broken, violent world. And may these words of Saint John Paul II on the occasion of the August 6 and 9 1945 bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki console us:

“It is with deep emotion that I greet today those who carry in their bodies the signs of the destruction that was visited on them on the day of the unforgettable fire. What you have endured has also inflicted a wound on the hart of every human being on earth. Your life here today is the most convincing appeal that could be addressed to all people of good will against war and for peace… We are all indebted to you for the living and constant appeal for peace that you are.” (John Paul II Nagasaki, February 26, 1981)
